Onet Monster Book is a timed tile-matching puzzle game in the connect subcategory. It's based on the popular Onet series. The player attempts to clear more than 100 levels of monster tiles. They also try to earn as many gemstones as possible.
The player must match identical pairs against antique blue wallpaper marked with leaves, vines, scroll designs, and dynamic monster artwork that looks like shrinky-plastic trinkets. The tiles feature monsters of various colors, heights and weights with different facial expressions. Some look joyous, while others seem sad.
The player can only remove the tiles that connect within two right angles with golden connecting lines and diamond starbursts. They must complete this task before time runs out in the upper-left area. When they remove all the tiles, the game rewards them with gemstones, which they can track in the upper-right area.
Onet Monster Book makes the matching process more difficult in a variety of ways. It might display small tiles on one level and large ones on the next. Midway through the player's work, it might shuffle the tiles into random positive or negative positions.
The game provides the player with several tools to help offset these challenges. For example, a lower-right magnifier icon zooms in on smaller tiles. If the player has enough gemstones, they can pay to use a hint button that highlights an identical pair, a timer button that increases the available time, and a shuffle button that rearranges the tiles into spots that improve the chances of selecting matches.
